How to remove background

- Choose whether you want transparency, a solid colour, or just the mask.
- Download as PNG or WebP with the alpha channel intact.
About this tool
Background removal used to mean either an hour with the pen tool or a subscription that meters you per image. Neither is necessary any more: the segmentation models that power those paid services are small enough to run in a browser tab, and quantised builds now fit in a few tens of megabytes.
That changes the economics completely. Because the model executes on your own processor, there is no per-image cost to pass on and therefore no reason to impose credits, watermarks or a signup wall. It also means the photograph never leaves your machine, which matters if you are cutting out product shots before launch, or anything involving people who have not consented to being uploaded somewhere.

Is this really running on my device?
Yes. The segmentation network runs through ONNX Runtime Web using WebAssembly, with WebGPU acceleration where your browser supports it. Watch the Network tab: you will see the model file download once, and after that no requests at all — certainly no image uploads.
Why is there no credit limit?
Every comparable service charges per image because each one costs them GPU time. Here the computation happens on your hardware, so it costs us nothing and there is nothing to ration. Process one image or three hundred.
How good is it on hair and fur?
Good, not perfect. Clean portraits against a contrasting background come out excellent. Wispy hair against a busy background is where any automatic matting struggles, including the paid ones. The edge softness control helps blend what is left.
