About this tool

Adding page numbers seems like a small thing until you are on page 47 of an unnumbered document trying to direct a colleague to the right section. Number format and position are matters of taste or style guide compliance; the most useful setting is often the start number, which lets a chapter document slot into a larger report without resetting to page 1.

Page numbers are stamped as text elements in the PDF content stream, not as a raster overlay, so they stay crisp at any zoom and copy cleanly from the document.

Questions

Can I start numbering from something other than 1?
Yes. Set "Start numbering at" to any value. This is useful for book chapters that need to count from the global page number rather than resetting at each document.
Can I leave the cover page unnumbered?
Set "Skip first N pages" to 1. The cover page receives no stamp; numbering begins on page 2 (starting from your chosen start number).
What font is used?
Helvetica from the standard PDF core font set, which requires no font embedding and is always available. It keeps the file size minimal and the rendering consistent across PDF viewers.
