About this tool
Audio in videos frequently needs adjustment for the same few reasons: the camera microphone picked up the scene too quietly, the original had no automatic gain control, or you are assembling clips shot in different conditions and need them to match. Manual gain is the fastest fix when you know the source is simply too quiet or too loud. Normalisation is better when you have multiple clips and want them all to land at a consistent perceived loudness for a platform.
LUFS-based normalisation became important when streaming services and social platforms introduced loudness normalisation on playback. A video mastered at -10 LUFS gets turned down when embedded in a feed alongside content at -16 LUFS. Targeting -16 LUFS from the start means your video plays at the intended loudness without the platform compensating.
